Sour Cream Tasting
with Al Sicherman and Lynne
January 2, 1999
Al Sicherman, our always curious grocery guru, thought it might be interesting to get Lynne's take on full-fat versus no-fat sour cream. She sampled three varieties:
Land 'O Lakes Regular at 6 grams of fat per 2-tablespoon serving
Land 'O Lakes Light at 2.5 grams of fat per 2-tablespoon serving
Land 'O Lakes Fat Free at 0 grams of fat per 2-tablespoon serving
The Verdict: Never one to mince words, Lynne announced she'd rather go to the dentist than eat the fat-free sour cream! She says go for the real thing and perhaps consider being moderate about the amount you eat! However, when cooking with sour cream she opts for the light (not the no fat!) variety because, unlike full-fat sour cream, it won't separate when heated. Remember that dairy products are highly regional and vary in taste and quality so compare the brands available in your area then decide which you like best.
