One jigger cognac (Rye Whiskey, a less expensive replacement for the French import was used after 1870, but the cognac version is magnifique)
Crushed sugar cube
3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Chill in a shaker, strain into a glass laced with Pernod or Herbsaint (originally absinthe), garnish with a lemon twist.
