Q: I'm looking for good cookbooks for one person using few ingredients. Do you have any suggestions?
Lynne: There are a lot of cookbooks out there with "Cooking for One" in the title. Take a look at those and see if they actually have recipes for food you would like to eat.
When picking out a cookbook, ask yourself the following questions:
Is this the kind of food I want to eat?
Do the recipes involve few ingredients?
Can I imagine making the recipes?
Are the directions easy to follow?
Here are some recommendations: There's a new book out called Recipes 1-2-3 by Rozanne Gald. She's only using 3 ingredients, and some of the recipes look very good. I would also suggest books by Steven Raichlen (especially the High-Flavor, Low-Fat series), books by Graham Kerr and even the Joy of Cooking. In some cases, you are going to have to just cut back on the recipe.
Remember when you are shopping, think about what products you can divide up. Think about how you can freeze a portion of it for use later. The new salad mixes are great because you can use a small portion and the rest will keep.
