Joshua Wesson, of Best Cellars thinks the next big grape in the world of red wine might be Argentina's Malbec. A little-known variety originally from France's Bordeaux region, Malbec grapes flourish in the sunny, dry Argentine climate and produce fruity wines loaded with blackberry and black cherry flavors.
Look for:
Trapiche: A good, solid bottle and great value at about $10. Serve with simple food like grilled steak.
Santa Julia: More rustic than the Trapiche but still a good red at about $8 to $9 a bottle.
Mapema: An "unbelievable, haunting" wine, says Joshua. This ruby-black stunner is in the splurge category at about $32.00. Pair it with prime rib.
