Food & Wine magazine's Executive Wine Editor Lettie Teague says Chablis is a noble French soul. This gem has been around forever and it comes from a famous place, but because everybody's forgotten about it it's wonderfully undervalued. Here are some of Lettie's favorite picks:
Domaine William Fevre: Much sought-after by serious collectors. $16 - $90 a bottle.
Domaine Laroche: The Saint Martin Chablis is a very good value from the only Chablis maker using screw caps.
Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils Village 2004: Wonderfully minerally and juicy. About $23.
Raveneau Le Clos 2002: At $400 a bottle, this is the one for a blowout splurge. The earth will move.
